new stuff, but not too much...

I added a few new links and new knitting blogs (more later as most of them are saved on the home computer).
More exciting- I FOUND THE CAMERA!!! (Not like it was missing or anything, mom!) That means super fun pic filled post coming right up! Provided I can find THE CORD (which also is not lost- mom!).

The weirdest thing about blogs is that, although sitemeter is great, you never know who it is that is reading along. You could be at a bar and have a friend you never knew read your blog tell you how cute it was that you dressed up the cat for the snow storm. Waitaminute...what? So in the spirit of this story Hi to all my blogstalkers! Leave a girl a comment every once in a while willya!

22 minutes to happy hour, not that I'm counting or anything...

averages

So to do some data analysis I have to average numbers. Not too bad right? Except there is no easy way to average numbers in Excel (besides doing a formula and stuff but then you have to redo it every time and it is more work than it is worth). I did 64 of them Yesterday but I have to do 192 more. I wish it were averageing 192 numbers but it is averageing 4 numbers 192 times. Yikes. My mom was a high school math teacher- how did I miss the math gene???

Tonight is a good knitting night- A mini-stich and bitch session!

I am seriously ready for spring break. I am not going anywhere but I just want a day or two to catch up on everything! V is going to go collecting so it will be me and the pets here at the house which will hopefully make me more productive than normal. Hopefully it will be relaxing too...perhaps another mini-week of fun?? Maybe take a day off to go skiing? Hiking?
It is pretty crazy to think of the actual lack of vacation time for normal grad students....I took a trip after graduating from my Masters but besides that the only travel has either been to see family for holidays or work related. Now, I love work related travel- don't get me wrong- I love conferences and field work but that is a bit more stressful than regular vacation travel. Plus I want to go somewhere with V! Besides holiday travel and a weekend trip to Fort Worth when we were in Texas, we haven't really traveled together (and with him starting school next fall- good luck with that!). At least this summer I will get to get out on the road a bit on my way to field work. For now, I must get off of Expedia and get to those averages...

Happy Valentines Day people!

Just wanted to wish you all a great Valentines Day (a few days ago)! We will be celebrating by uh, yeah. We are not celebrating. V bought me an orchid when he went to the Depot to buy a new shovel during the snow and I cooked a fantastic pasta dinner on Sunday. I had dance class so I spent the evening with skinny 11 year olds and other assorted types who put joy into their glissades.

Sorry for the delay, I meant to put pics in and post the darn thing but alas, the camera was not making itself accessable. I can't seem to get the camera and the cord to hook it up to the computer in the same place at the same time. Either way it has been a busy week. we will leave it at that for now...

Congrats!

Congrats are in order! V offically is accepted in the PhD program at our university! He starts classes in the fall and will be working on some really cool science! Yea for him!!!

Impending ?

So we are getting our first snow storm of the winter tonight. Maybe I'll photoblog the storm and the back 40. Maybe I'll get some work done during the storm! Yeah right! I'm going to watch the last Arrested Developments from last night and throw snowballs at the dog!

Who me?

At least Seymour is getting ready for the storm!

Anyways, as promised... Here are my awesome presents from Amandamonkey! I love the bag and the mittens are fantasticly warm.

AND Here are the armwarmers for Sneks (New blogger alert!)

Pattern: from SnB Nation. No cable. done on 8s instead of 7s. I was afraid too tight a result with the alpaca would be too warm to wear with any regulatity.
Yarn: Misti Alpaca. It is great.
I think I will make myself a pair too in grey with 7s. The 8s caused me some anxiety.

And finally, in progress shaving...V felt a little creativity was in store.

hola!

Hey kiddos! Where O where have I been? Well, I am to give a presentation in 29 minutes so here is a quick rundown (yes, I should d othe rundown AFTER THE PRESENTATION but sometimes you just need a quick break from electric fish communication) I have been...
Seeing V with a sweet fu manchu before shaving his whole beard
Rock climbing and going to dance class with Sneks
Having too many migraines lately- time to go back on medication for them
Planning a research trip Out West with maybe a side vacation trip to Mexico
Eating at the best resturant in our town. Two blocks from my house and it took us 6 months to finally get there.
Doing DNA stuff
Finishing a pair of armwarmers
Possibly getting my own undergrad in the lab
Cuddling with Seymour who now likes to sleep under the covers with us
Reading this great article about the OC characters as world powers (http://www.yaledailynews.com/article.asp?AID=31629) links won't work...

That pretty much sums it up. Pics of knitting gifts, mounstaches and who knows what else tonight after work! Must finish my notes for now!

Puppy Bowl

So last year I wactched this during the boring parts of the game (mostly when the anounncers talk during halftime). They showed in on Christmas or New Years too. At least flip over for a few minutes of Puppy Bowl fun. It seriously is just a camera aimed at a small arena painted like a football field with puppies in it. I don't really mean for this blog to be an homage to cuteness but seriously people. 3 HOURS OF PUPPIES. You can't argue with that.

Silent Poetry Reading

As brough to my attention by Amandamonkey, The Midwinter Silent Poetry Reading.

V's contribution.....

In Fear of Harvests
by James Wright

It has happened
Before: nearby,
The nostrils of slow horses
Breathe evenly,
And the brown bees drag their high garlands,
Heavily,
Toward hives of snow.

And my own choice as it is suppossed to get colder this week and I am suppossed to be sleeping any minute now...

Winter Trees
By William Carlos Williams

All the complicated details
of the attiring and
the disattiring are completed!
A liquid moon
moves gently among
the long braches.
Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.

Goodnight everyone...

Triple Boo!

I wrote a post called "Double Boo" last night when I stayed home from dance classes due to sickness. I apologized for saying anyone over 50 was old when really it is the senior citizens of our town with great tastes in movies. I praised V for being a fantastic boyfriend.

Then the computer ate my post. I gave up and went to bed.

Today I gave a talk and still am in awe of how horrid it went. First of all- 20 minutes of technical difficulties. About as long as the informal talk itself. Then I had just come from teaching and didn't have a lot of time to prepare and it sorta sucked. Everyone else thinks it was fine but I am (as usual) overly critical.

But FINALLY- some good news! I tried to extract some DNA out of fin clips from my fish. This way I can check out their genes and not have to kill the fishies. Well it worked and I can take a small clip and get more than enough DNA out of it. Yippee! The first step in figuring out some dissertation ideas worked! Again...Yipee!!
Gotta catch up on grading now so I can, hopefully, enjoy V's birthday weekend!
