Old Project, New Project, Sock Project, Blue Project!

I realize I never showed you the completed first ever sock. It's a beauty! Well, It's a sock at least. I am not a huge fan of the yarn or pattern so I am not planning on making the second one anytime soon.

For my next sock-related trick.....

This is going to be a Jaywalker!

I avoided even casting on for the second of my silk armwarmers but did begin a pair of Fetching. I couldn't resist any longer. They will go to Artgirl who once upon a time, I made a bright red alpaca hat.
I am totally making them for myself too- So. Cute. Plus a fun, quick knit. I must say though- the cabling in the round? Not as easy as it seems- especially on a turbulent airplane. I am glad I had cable experience before these otherwise I would have given up and never cable knit again.

I also finally finished my Branching Out. It only took me a year and a half. While I was messing with my computer to go through airport security, the yarn got stuck in the zipper of my backpack. It broke when I pulled it out. Now my beautiful, years-in-the-making lace scarf has a big ol' hole in it. The horror...

(I actually don't have any decent pictures of the hole...here is my moms' cat instead)

Bend to Squares

I think my square made it into the blanket for Grandmother Purl! See, there- 3rd picture down...right in the middle row closest to the end of the bed! Looks like the little one I made (bad lighting and all)...
It is pretty neat to see exactly where mine ended up, who is (hopefully) enjoying it and what squares it is rubbing shoulders with (my little stockinette is certainly surrounded by some beautiful blue lacy squares)! They ended up getting enough squares for 4 or 5 blankets which is crazy amounts of squares quite a testament to the Internets and knit bloggers in particular.
P.S. Can you tell I just learned how to do a strike through in html? I am going to have to make a super long to-do list just to use it more...

Finish or no finish

As promised, here are Dr. B's armwarmers! A self portrait taken with my nose while balancing the camera on my lab. I have to figure out the timer still! 'Deal or No Deal' is on while I wait for Lost to start. Yeah Lost! Not 3 weeks late or on my computer!

I've been working a lot too, sent another grant application in today, prepped for field work next week, and marked fish. How great do these guys look? (They don't usually have the yellow dots, mom!)

I'll be meeting up with a friend at a conference and then in the field next week. 20+ hours of driving by Sunday. Woo Hoo! Spring Break!

New Hat

When I was in PA for V's birthday it was VERY cold. So cold that I bought the hat I coveted every time I went to the mall since September. I was going to make myself something like it but it was on clearence and yarn wouldn've been more expensive anyways. Plus the ears and lined in fleece and I don't have skills like that yet.
Isn't it great? Love the cables, ear flaps and GREEN! Even Seymour likes it.

In other news, I am currently house/dog sitting. I am the go-to dog sitter at my facility. Which I love as I get free places to stay with real kitchens and full size showers. This weeks house has a water softener, treadmill, cable and wireless internet. It is like a resort and my hair is much nicer already after one day. With the wireless at my disposal, expect updates on the knitting and adventures with my new friends all week (Or at least till Thursday when I travel to a regional conference).
I need more wine and knitting to help me stay up to see Arcade Fire on SNL. Their new album is out next month and I am looking forward to it. They also put on probably the 3rd best show I've ever seen. I hope your Saturday night is as exciting as mine!

I Believe in Spring

There are actually 5-6 things I want to knit in the new Interweave Knits Spring preview! I usually don't think I could do the projects I like, or just hate the projects. I will have to see bigger pics but so far I am thinking of the Green Tea Raglan, Dollar and a Half Cardigan, Bonsai Tunic (might be too hard though), Swan Lake Cardigan (also might be a bit challenging), and I LOVE the Slanted Neck Pullover!

The thing about all of these is that they are classic looking. Detailed but not too busy with simple lines and subdued colors. So many pattens out there are so detailed with cables/color/etc that I don't feel that I could wear them often enough to make the knitting time and yarn money really worthwhile.

Of course, this want of simple, classic knits totally goes against my previous post about wishing I had a more stylized wardrobe.
There has to be a way to incorporate both without looking like a clothes schizophrenic. Oh yeah, and be a way to do so on a grad student budget. HA!

"1-2-3 Space Mountain"

The best...
HOLY CRAP did you see the Barack Obama intro to Monday night football? The set it up that even I half thought he was going to announce he was running for president. But the 'new guy' that might not have enough experience was, of course, Rex- not himself. He 'is ready...." FOR THE BEARS TO GO ALL THE WAY!! Ahhh, you see what they did there? hehehe. Even if you don't care about football it is worth finding on YouTube.
The good...
Revisions on the proposal are out to the committee to look over I did everything but the graphs they want...
I met with StatsMan at school today and will have an easy time on the stats for my next publication...
V is the best home repair guy in the world!
I finished one of the arm warmers for Dr. B! At least one wrist will be warm before January and she will know that the other is on its way....
I started a FANTASTIC alpaca eyelet scarf.... mmmm....alpaca...

The bad....
The committee wants graphs of made up data. This wouldn't be so bad except made up data is always so generic it isn't really all that informative...
I can't use ALL the data as one of my groups only has a sample size of one. I also need to collect more data to round out the groups and soon!
There are roots in the main line to our sewer....
No pics of the knits today!

The unclassifiable...
One month from today I will be here. And I will be all alone....

I hope I don't get attacked by javelina...
